Pat Longhorn
I am married to Pete and we have 2 sons and 6 gorgeous grandchildren. Pete and I emigrated to WA in 2006 to live near our younger son.
I had an above knee amputation in 1971 following a diagnosis of cancer. On my recovery I returned to my career in nursing and I finished my career as Director of Nursing in an Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Hospital.
I started playing golf when I retired. I first entered an amputee open in 1996,when I discovered the fun of amputee golf ,although I played badly!
I have since played in several UK, European and South African Amputee Opens. I was Lady Champ 3 times in UK. One of my proudest moments was winning in Sweden in 1999 in the group B against all 18 plus handicappers ,men and women! I was lucky to be chosen to play in the English team against Sweden in 2003 and 2005, when England drew one and won one.
I first played in Australia in2002when I competed in the World Series at the Lakes .I have played in 4 Australian Opens and 2 QAGA opens. I was the first Australian Ladies Champ in 2004. Although I have always been thrilled to win sometimes I have been the only lady so I am delighted that more lady amputees are now entering.
My biggest disappointment in my golfing life is that I have not been able to persuade Pete to take up the game.!
