Name: John Staley
Occupation: Administration Manager for a company that imports furniture and wholesales to the likes of Harvey Norman & Guests Furniture.
Family: Married to Sadie, & have 2 boys David 23 & Josh 11
Lives: Beaumaris Victoria Surrounded by golf courses like Royal Melbourne, Victoria Golf Club Sandringham Public.
Amputation: Both legs below knee, as a result of a disease called Streptococcal Pneumonia that I contracted in 1999 after somebody carrying the disease sneezed on me.
Golf history: My golf history started at school when I took up Golf as a school sport (mainly because I could jump the fence on the 3 rd hole & go home), I worked for Myer for 20 odd years in positions ranging from Trainee to Regional Finance & Administration Manager, & during this time, golf was a good social sport to play, with people I both worked with & did business with. I hadn’t played for many years when I ran into Graham Kenyon at Caulfield Hospital & he convinced me that I should go to the 1 st Australian Open, which I did &, since then I have attended all the following opens except the last, I have also attended the Victorian, NZ & Queensland tournaments. I think the main reason I attend the Amputee Golf functions is not for the golf, but for the opportunity to discuss issues related to being an amputee with other amputees, issues such as the types of prosthesis that are available, physical issues related to being an amputee and the general day to day problems we face. I also enjoy the social aspects of the tournament & the interaction with the other competitors, their family & friends
I'm the current Queensland Open 08 Nett Winner in the Multi Amputation Division
I am looking forward to the inaugural SA Open event in November2008
